5 Book Recommendations to Benefit Your Higher Self

Writer: Christina Murphy Christina Murphy

With all of the spare time I currently have, I've finally been getting back intro reading. I used to read loads of books growing up and it was a huge part of my night routine before bed. Once I started at university, studying took up more of my time at night and I found it difficult to commit to a book that wasn't uni-related. However, I still used to read hear and there, usually over the holiday periods.

I'm a huge fan of self-help and personal development books. Having read quite a few, I thought I'd make some recommendations of popular books that I (and many others) have found beneficial.

1. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

You've most likely heard of this one! I read this book years ago and it was my first introduction to the power of manifestation and the Law of Attraction. This book highlights processes such as visualisation and gratitude as the key to manifesting your dreams and desires. It essentially states that what you choose to put out to the universe, you will attract. Although this book has been heavily criticised due to lack of scientific evidence, the Law of Attraction and manifestation is a popular process used by many people (including myself) all over the world. There must be a reason as to why it has sold over 19 million copies in less than a year, right?

2. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

If you've read my blog post on Decision-Making: Ego vs. Intuition, then you'll know a little bit about the ego already. This book heavily discusses the power of the ego and how to silence the thoughts that are holding you back from living a liberated life. Tolle teaches you how to fully surrender to the present moment, let go of your problems, and appreciate yourself for who you truly are.

3. Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King

One of my favourites! This inspirational book by Vex King highlights the importance of self-love, practicing positive lifestyle habits that will benefit your well-being, and vibrating at a high frequency in order to attract great opportunities into your life. This book also discusses practices such as manifestation, mindfulness, and meditation through tried-and-tested techniques. I recommend this book to anyone in their 20's struggling with self-worth or figuring out the purpose of life - Vex's wise words will teach you otherwise!

4. Women Who Think Too Much by Susan Nolen-Hoeksema

This book goes into depth about today's self-analytical culture and how women are being negatively impacted by over-thinking. If you are someone who spends a lot of time self-criticising or have trouble falling asleep due to rumination, then this is a great book to invest in. As discussed in this book, research has shown that an increasing number of women overthink to the point of sadness, depression, and anxiety. The author offers a comprehensive range of strategies and relatable examples to help you let go of negative thought processes and live more productively.

5. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

If you have read and enjoyed my post on Overcoming Self-Limiting Beliefs, then this book is for you. The Four Agreements is inspired by a set of beliefs held by the ancient Toltec people and is based on a range of agreements that people tell themselves, but unfortunately have the power to diminish self-worth. The book suggests that most needless suffering is developed through self-created beliefs and statements that negatively impact well-being. Ruiz discusses four agreements in depth that aim to improve your overall state of mind and increase happiness.

If you have already read of decide to read any of the suggested books, please let me know! I'd be very interested to hear your opinion and the message you took away from any of them. As you can see, I've attached a picture of the cover of each book below the description and if you click the picture it will take you straight to an Amazon link to purchase it.

I am yet to read Sarah Knights three novels (the "No-F*cks-Given Guides"), but I've heard they are excellent and are definitely next on my list!

Until next time;

peach and love,

Tina
